Christine Sawyer

Cardio Ballet & Total Body Barre

Christine danced before she could walk!
I am from Teaneck, NJ and grew up dancing in NJ and NYC. When I stood up, I apparently immediately started standing and walking around on demi-pointe. Neither of my parents are dancers nor do they have any background in dance, and I am the first and only child, so they thought that was normal. I never sat still and loved crawling and running around however, whenever I would hear music, I would stop and start bopping about. When I was 2, my mother took me to mommy and me dance class. I was having so much fun that I left my poor mother by herself in the back “being a butterfly” while I danced up to the front next to the teacher. I guess that was when I knew that I wanted to dance. And I never turned back.

Christine’s career spans the country and many genres.
I started dancing in northern NJ and when I was 11, I auditioned and was accepted to the School of American Ballet. For the rest of my middle/ high school years, the majority of my training was there and at the School at Steps under Leslie Browne, Ethan Brown, and David Howard for ballet and roberta mathes for jazz. I attended summer intensives including American Ballet Theatre, NY, Kaatsbaan, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and North Carolina Dance theatre (now Charlotte Ballet). I was accepted into NYU to double major in dance and physics but decided to defer my enrollment to move to Santa Barbara to dance with the State Street Ballet. One of my highlights with State Street Ballet was our 2 and a half month tour traveling all over China. When I moved down to LA and Orange county, I danced in the company with Anaheim Ballet and Pasadena Dance Theatre as well as dancing in parades and shows at Disneyland and performing at Universal Studios Hollywood. Since being back in the NYC area, I have been dancing with Ballet des Ameriques and Brooklyn Ballet. I also dance with many theatrical and entertainment companies dancing at various parties, events, and clubs as well as a dancer swing in the House of Yes production of “The Devouring” at the Paradise Club: Times Square Edition Hotel.

I will be in the Macy’s Parade again this year so make sure to keep an eye out for me in the Macy’s section!

Christine will push you to be the best version of yourself.
I have been teaching dance classes for years ranging from 2 year old creative movement through adult ballet and jazz classes. I have always been big into cross training taking yoga, pilates, etc. but I really got big into fitness when I was hired to be in live stream fitness videos for Classpass Live. I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT) and have trained individual and small groups focusing on individualized goals as well as teaching group fitness classes. My main specialties in teaching include ballet, jazz, dance cardio, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), barre, stretch and release, and strength conditioning. When I teach, I want everyone to leave feeling accomplished and good about themselves. I give modifications and advancements in class so everyone can feel safe yet push themselves. You should always strive to be the best version of yourself.
